UNDISCLOSED RECIPIENTS

TAF is pleased to present the exhibition Undisclosed Recipients opening on Thursday July 21st and running until August 31st 2011.

The term Undisclosed Recipients is used in contemporary communications, usually in the occasion of sending an email to a number of undisclosed recipients. The exhibition, instigated by this practice, explores the relationship between the artist, the artwork and the viewer and examines the work of art as a medium of communication, as an «in-between» the artist and the spectator.

Art history and theory have questioned the role of the viewer and his necessity for the justification or the completion of a work of art and whether the work is sufficient and autonomous without the need to be viewed by a broader audience. However if the viewer is essential as the final receiver of the creative process, how does he consider the piece? How does he perceive and annex it?

At same time, questions arise concerning the relation of the artist to his work. Does the artist, during the productive procedure consider the viewer? Do "unknown-secret receivers" for whom the intended meaning of the artwork, exist? Or even, perhaps subconsciously, at the time of the "artistic act", the artist opens a dialogue with the viewer that hides within him.

23 young visual artists participate in the exhibition, whose morphological and plastic elements might appear almost diverse. However each one, with his own means and conceptual code communicates a common structural need, the need for his message to reach its recipient.
