Elpida Orfanidou / Of High Importance

On Sunday the 6th of November at 20.00, as part of the exhibition Pause/Play, TAF will present Of High Importance a performance by Elpida Orfanidou. The dramaturgy is by Vasiliki Mouteveli.

A heart operation is a situation of high importance, no doubt about it; But we are at the theatre; And someone is doing something in front of others. How much importance can this situation bear?

Of High Importance is a solo performance examining the idea of significance in the theatrical act. The performance focuses on the oscillation between the significance and the insignificance of situations created in the theatre. The performance constantly pendulates between the wise and the silly, the serious and the funny, the sensible and the senseless, the mysterious and the obvious. In her current piece, Orfanidou wanted to remain close to the simple, to create the complex if the need arises, to welcome failure and to encourage passion.

The exhibition Pause/Play, of which this performance forms part, explores the concept of playfulness and the practice of playing as a critical process. Through the works presented in the exhibition, play manifests itself as a situation of disobedience and as an improvisational, carefree attitude while its inherent thoughtfulness and absurdity are presented as a state of knowledge. At the same time the spontaneity and randomness of playing are revalued and emerge as serious practice that can transgress the limitations of rationalism and offer real solutions.

The performance will last for approximately 30 minutes. The admission is free.
