Chez Alba

The Art Foundation presents the play Chez Alba. A play inspired by F.G. Lorca’s theatrical work The House of Bernarda Alba.

Five women pent up in a boudoir. The mother lovingly oversees, sets boundaries and rules. No contact with light, air, sound, smell, love. No contact with any other human element. “Mother knows best because that is her job: to know best.”

Four walls that bleed a little more than customary. Dependent relationships. Power relationships. One’s joy is the other’s defeat. The father’s death and the lack of a male figure define their desires. “The Man is absent because that is his job: to be absent.”

The play was first staged at the Festival of the National Theatre of Northern Greece, Action Venue in June 2010.
