Taf is pleased to present the group exhibition Chain Reaction which opens December 16th, 2010 and runs until January 16th, 2011. The artists exhibit works that they have traded with each other. The group of works occurs from a series of consecutive acts of exchange, incidently commencing with Nikos Kanarelis and Nikos Papadimitriou. The chain unfolds as each artist presents the work he or she has exchanged with another artist. The process delineates a human network and a sequence of works, while each artist participates simultaneously as creator, collector and co-curator. The art exchange indicates the forming of an alliance and as such it constitutes an act with symbolic content. The obtained work of art constitutes a reminder of the relation of affinity and community that connects the contributing parts as well as an object of desire. The artist’s practice of collecting artworks reveals his fetishistic relation to the visual object itself. The mutuality of the gesture fulfills and reproduces the desire to collect. At the same time it declares a joint commitment within a different form of economy, which functions informally and independently from the established art market – almost as a reaction to it. Chain Reaction attempts to transcribe, even if fragmentally, human and material correlations as well as the circulation of the respectively involved ideas and images. The chain forms the visual sequence of the exhibited artworks and connects artists that might never have met. Within this framework, the practice of exchange is underlined as a from of dialogue which progresses the creative process and highlights a social network of visual artists.

The exhibition space will remain closed on December 24th after 16.00, 25th, 26th before 16.00, 31st and January the 1st and 2nd.
